In fact William’s parents were Richard Tubman & Susanna Madgin, they were married on the 12/05/1833 at St Bees Parish church, Whitehaven. They must have wanted to marry but Susanna was too young, in fact the banns were called three times before they finally married.
Richard & Susanna had 10 children, William ba 15/09/1833, Thomas ba 21/12/1834, Ann ba 14/08/1836, John ba 25/03/1838, James ba 03/11/1839, Mary Ann ba 22/08/1841, Sarah ba 19/03/1943, Susanna ba 22/09/1844, Richard ba 29/03/1846, Isaac ba 07/11/1847, and Jane Ellen (Eleanor) ba 04/11/1849. All the children were baptised at the Holy Trinity Church in Whitehaven,Cumberland (now Cumbria).
Nous avons donc ici la confirmation de l'histoire de famille selon laquelle le premier Madgin était en fait un Tubman.
Effectivement, Robert Tubman nous informe:
I was contacted by a Maurice Marier , also a descendant of William, a couple of years ago who kindly furnished me with the information that William and his brother Thomas, entered Canada at St Andre`, Kamouraska, whether they deserted ship, were wrecked, or left on their own accord we haven’t been able to find out. (This is the info I am seeking).

William Tubman and his younger brother Thomas deserted their ship in the St Lawrence river Canada between 1850 and 1855. They landed at a small town called St Andre, Kamouaska, in Quebec province, an area that was French speaking.
They adopted their mother's maiden name Madgin, the reason isn't known, but William married a French Canadian girl Emerence Pinet, and their descendants all bear the surname Madgin except where marriage altered the fact.
Thomas Tubman moved to Ottawa and became an English teacher. He reverted to his Tubman surname, married and his wife and descendants became a very prominent family in Ottawa etc.
Selon cette base de données, il y a des Tubman partout à travers le monde: Angleterre, Hollande, Canada, États-Unis, Australie, Nouvelle-Zélande, Afrique du Sud, ...
Evelyne et moi en avons donc pour plusieurs heures de plaisir à décortiquer cette base de donnée et à faire les liens avec notre famille!
Le prochain mystère à élucider est l'arrivée des frères Tubman au Canada. Y a-t-il un lien avec la Grosse-île, lieu d'arrivée des immigrants au Canada, où les ancêtres de Martin Masson ont vécu et travaillé?
